Proxy voting

Find out how to apply for a proxy vote If you want or need someone to vote for you, including in an emergency.

A proxy is someone who votes for you. They must vote for you at your designated polling station. The proxy must be registered to vote and also eligible to vote at the election.

Apply to be someone's proxy voter

You can be a proxy voter for a maximum of two people living in the UK and two people registered as living overseas.

When an emergency proxy is allowed

An emergency proxy is allowed only because of something that you weren't aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline. For example:

  • a medical emergency
  • suddenly away for work (this was not booked beforehand)
  • because of Covid-19. The form can also be used to change your nominated proxy if they cannot vote in person for you because of Covid-19.

These applications can be made up to 5pm on polling day.
