Access Islington – council tax enquiries

Due to technical issues, Access Islington is currently unable to help with council tax queries over the phone or at our hubs.

You can still manage your council tax online through My Islington, including viewing your bill and making payments.

We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible and are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Registers for sale

Find out what electoral registers are for sale, who can buy them and how to buy them.

How to buy the electoral register

The Electoral Registration Officer is responsible for compiling, maintaining and publishing two versions of the electoral register.

The full version

The full version of the register contains the names of all those people living in Islington who can vote. Only certain people and organisations are allowed to have copies or buy this version and they can use it only for specified purposes, including electoral purposes, the prevention and the detection of crime and checking your identity when you have applied for credit. It is an offence for them to use it for any other purpose or to pass information from the register on to an unauthorised individual or group. Others may only inspect this version under supervision.

Please contact Electoral Services on 020 7527 3110 to make an appointment.

Under current legislation, the Electoral Registration Officer must sell copies of the full register to any credit reference agency that requests one. The cost is £20 plus £1.50 per 1,000 names.

The open register

The open register leaves out the names of electors who have asked to be excluded from this version, and anyone can buy it for any purpose, including direct marketing. You can buy paper copies for £10 plus £5 per 1,000 names.

If you would like to buy the edited register, please contact electoral services on 020 7527 3110.

Credit agency checks

The main credit agencies all purchase the full register when it is published in December and monthly updates. It can take some time for them to update their records, so if you’re registered but are not yet on the list, you can request a letter from electoral services confirming you are registered. As this is not connected with elections or voting, we will charge for each letter.

Charges start from £10 per letter but can rise if you require evidence of registration for several years.
