Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.  

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs 

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential. 

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Visas and immigration

If you’re a Ukrainian refugee, check what you need to do when you arrive in the UK or to stay in the UK.

eVisa

When you arrive in the UK, you should apply for an eVisa. An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of the type of permission you have to enter or stay in the UK.

They have replaced Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and you should apply for an eVisa to replace your BRP if you have not done so already. You should keep your BRP even after applying for an eVisa and we recommend that you continue to bring it with you when you travel too. 

To get access to your eVisa, you will need to create a UK Visas and Immigrant account. We recommend that you do this as soon as possible after arriving in the UK. 

Once you have an eVisa, you will be able to use it to prove your immigration status. It will be attached directly to your digital immigration record and you will not need to carry a physical document with you.

Ukraine Permission Extension scheme

On 18 February 2024, the UK government announced the launch of the Ukrainian Permission Extension (UPE) scheme.

If you’re a Ukrainian national, or the family member of a Ukrainian national, and are living in the UK with existing permission on one of the Ukraine schemes, you may be eligible to apply for the UPE to continue living in the UK for up to a further 18 months.

You will be able to apply for the UPE within the last 28 days of your existing visa. You must make an application before your current permission expires.

If your application is refused, you will be able to reapply within a 14-day window. There is no appeal process for the UPE. If the application is refused, you will be required to make arrangements to leave the UK.
