Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Small Business Rate Relief

Some small businesses are entitled to a reduction on their Business Rates - find out if you are eligible.

You can get small business rate relief if your:

  • property’s rateable value is less than £15,000
  • business only uses one property - you may still be able to get relief for a limited time if you use more than one property

You cannot get small business rate relief and charitable rate relief at the same time. We will decide which type of relief you are eligible for.

How much relief you can get

How much small business rate relief you get depends on your property’s rateable value.

You will not pay business rates on a property with a rateable value of £12,000 or less, if that’s the only property your business uses. You get 100% relief.

For properties with a rateable value of £12,001 to £15,000, the rate of relief will go down gradually from 100% to 0%.

If you get a second property or more

If you get a second property or more, you will keep getting any existing relief on your main property for 3 years (this is called the grace period).

You can continue to get this rate if you have taken on more than one property from 27 November 2025 and either:

  • each extra property has a rateable value of £2,899 or less
  • the total rateable value of all properties is no more than £28,000

If you got a second or more properties before 27 November 2025, you will only keep the relief for 12 months.

When the grace period ends, the relief is finished and you must pay full business rates.

Full details about the relief are on GOV.UK under Small Business Rate Relief.
