Temporary Event Notice (TENs)
TENs are a simple way to provide licensable activities for one-off events without the need to obtain a premises licence or a personal licence.
Overview
TENs can be given to permit any or all of the following:
- the sale of alcohol
- the supply of alcohol to members of a registered club
- the provision of late-night refreshment - hot food or hot drink between 11pm - 5am
- entertainment defined as a performance of a play, an exhibition of a film, an indoor sporting event, boxing or wrestling entertainment, a performance of live music, any playing of recorded music, or a performance of dance.
TENs can often be used to temporarily extend the hours or activities permitted by a premises licence or club premises certificate.
Types of TENs
Standard TEN
You can apply for a Standard TEN if there are 10 clear working days before the start of your event. This doesn't include the day you apply for your TEN, the date of your event, Bank Holidays or weekends.
You have the right to appeal if there's an objection to a Standard TEN application.
Late TEN
You must apply for a Late Ten if are there five clear working days before the start of your event. This doesn't include the day you apply, the date of your event, Bank Holidays or weekends.
You have no right to appeal if there's an objection to a Late TEN application.
You need to complete the same application form regardless of the type of TEN you're applying for.
