Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential.

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Animal boarding licence

Apply for or renew an animal boarding licence.

New applicants are advised to contact us before applying as we will arrange to meet you, go through the application process and carry out an inspection of your premises at the same time.

If you provide accommodation for other people's cats and dogs you are required to have a licence. The licence is to ensure certain standards in the management of the accommodation are met and to guard against disease.

Licences usually run from 1 January and last up to 12 months.

Apply

Please contact the Animal Welfare team to apply for a licence. Call 020 7527 3222 or email animal.welfare@islington.gov.uk

After you apply

We will only make a decision about your application after an independent report has been received.

The right to appeal

If your application is refused, please contact us in the first instance. You can appeal to the local magistrates’ court.

Licence renewals

All licences run from 1 January each year. We will send you a reminder to renew your licence in November and a pre-licence inspection will be carried out in the same month.

A second reminder is sent out in December and the licence issued from 1 January.
