Variations to a special treatments premises licence
If you are changing the premises layout or adding new treatments, you need to apply for a variation to your licence.
The licensee may apply to vary the premises licence at any time. There are two main types of variation:
- to add authorised treatments
- to change the layout of the premises.
Unless adding a treatment of a like-kind to a licence, a full variation application will be required. If you are unsure whether the treatments you are adding require a full variation or just additional treatment submission, please contact us.
Adding treatments to a licence
You can be authorised to provide low and/or high-risk treatments. Unless adding a treatment of a like kind to what you're already authorised, a full variation application will be required.

The fee to add treatments of a like kind is £62.00. A full variation fee is £286.00.
Changing premises layout
If you're changing the layout of your premises, you need to apply for a variation to your licence.
The cost of this variation is £254.10.
Please state the nature of the proposed variation, if changing the premises layout please include new plan when you apply.
You will also need to send a copy of this application to the local police and fire brigade. We will do this on your behalf if you apply electronically.
Apply
- Download and complete the application form from 'Useful documents' below, and email a PDF or Word version to licensing@islington.gov.uk.
- Please note we no longer accept cash or cheques.
- Once we receive the application, we will email a payment link to pay the relevant fee online.
After you apply
You must exhibit a notice of renewal for 28 days from making your application. The notice form can be downloaded from the ‘Useful documents’ below.
If there are no objections to the application, the licence will be granted once the 28 day application period has passed. If there are objections, they will be referred to the council licensing committee to make a decision whether or not to grant the licence. You will be given at least two weeks’ notice if your application is being referred.
You can appeal against the licensing committee's decision not to grant a licence within 21 days of being notified of their decision. Appeals can be made to the local magistrates' court.
