Chapel Market construction updates

Our latest updates on the construction of the Chapel Market improvements project.

Dates and work hours

  • Work started in May 2023 and is expected to be completed in December 2023.
  • During the construction works Chapel Market Road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works. Diversion signs will be in place to advise delivery drivers and residents of access routes.
  • We will make every effort to keep any disruption and noise to a minimum and we will be carrying out the works during off-peak hours. The contractors' actual work times may vary depending on the nature of the works and the weather conditions.
  • Working hours will be between 8am and 6pm. However, if necessary, the council will seek to work extended hours to help keep the programme on track.
  • Notifications will be sent out to residents in advance if extended working hours are required at any stage of the project.

Road closures

Please note that the construction works require the following road closures:

  • Chapel Market, at junction with Liverpool Road from 17 July 2023. This is expected to last until 9 August 2023.
  • Baron Street, between Chapel Market and White Lion Street from 5 September 2023. This is expected to last until 20 September 2023.

Parking restrictions

To allow us to carry out the works as quickly and as efficiently as possible, we will be introducing temporary parking restrictions. These restrictions will be kept to a minimum and we will ensure that signs are put up well in advance to give residents as much notice as possible of any restrictions.
