Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential.

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Post-16 choices

Young people who have completed Year 11 must now stay in learning until the end of the school year when they turn 18. This doesn't mean they have to stay in school.

The main choices are:

  • a full-time course at a college or school sixth form
  • work-based training such as an apprenticeship or a job with training
  • part-time education or training if they are employed, self-employed or volunteering more than 20 hours per week.

Colleges and Sixth forms

Some colleges and sixth forms in Islington offer a range of courses for school leavers.

Financial help

Islington offers a bursary scheme which gives teenagers from low-income families up to £300 a year to help them start and stay in further education.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to start their career. They’ll gain experience and work towards a nationally-recognised qualification, while being paid to do a real job.

Education and careers advice for young people

Islington's youth website izzy-info.com has lots of information and advice for young people to help them plan their future.
