Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential.

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Safe havens scheme

Safe havens are a way for you to easily get support from local businesses, if you need help.

If you are feeling threatened, are being harassed on the street, are unwell or just in need of some help, look for the Safe haven sign in windows. Someone in the Safe haven will be able to help you.

You can also find Safe havens on our interactive map.

Safe havens can help by:

  • providing a friendly face and reassurance
  • calling the police, family or friends
  • giving you directions or public transport information.

Remember, if you are in immediate danger call the police on 999.

In Case of Emergency cards

'In Case of Emergency' (ICE) cards are available from our community safety team. ICE cards should be filled in with the details of someone you would like to be contacted in an emergency. This could be anyone – a friend, relative or someone else.

We advise to always keep the card on you. If you do experience an emergency, you can hand your ICE card to someone in a Safe haven who will help contact your chosen person.

To request an 'ICE' card you can:

Apply to become a Safe haven

Public premises such as shops, cafes, pubs, libraries and other places of interest can register to be officially known as a Safe haven.

We know that businesses care about their patrons and Islington’s residents. Becoming a Safe haven is a way to show that anyone can go into a local business and be supported. They make explicit what most of our businesses already do and they show that, as a borough, we are all invested and care about safety and each other.
