Access Islington – council tax enquiries

Due to technical issues, Access Islington is currently unable to help with council tax queries over the phone or at our hubs.

You can still manage your council tax online through My Islington, including viewing your bill and making payments.

Car-free policy

Find out more about our car-free policy, including what a car-free property is and how it affects parking in and around all new homes built since 2013.

Islington Council has a car-free policy. All new residential developments since 2013 are automatically car-free. This means:

  • we will not issue parking permits to occupiers of new homes
  • there will be no parking or waiting for vehicles expect for essential drop-off and wheelchair-accessible parking.  

Car-free policy aims

The car-free policy is in place to reduce air pollution caused by traffic, encourage active travel and the use of public transport, and reduce traffic accidents on our roads and streets.

This is in line with the council's Islington Together 2030 plan for a greener, healthier Islington. 

Car-free properties

A car-free property is a residential unit, such as a house or flat, where the occupier of the unit will not be allowed a parking permit. 

If you move into a car-free property, you cannot buy a parking permit and will not be able to park your car at the property or on the street nearby.

All residential developments built since 2013 are automatically car-free. This includes purpose-built houses and flats, building conversions, and the sub-division of properties. For example, if a single house is converted into two or more flats, the new flats will become car-free even if the house was built before 2013. 

Car-free list

The car-free list is updated each month and is a full list of all properties in Islington that are car-free. If your property is on the list, it means that it is car-free, and will not be able to keep a car at your property and will not be eligible for a parking permit.

Exemptions

If you are a Blue Badge holder, you will be exempt from the car-free policy and you can get a parking permit.
