Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.  

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs 

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential. 

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Highbury Fields

Highbury Fields is Islington’s largest park. There are lots of things to do, including playing sports and enjoying the playground.

New adventure play structure

The new adventure play structure is open. After consulting with local children and families, it has been designed to encourage children to take a more adventurous approach to play, encouraging jumping, swinging, climbing and balancing.

  • One 50m x 26m artificial turf floodlit football pitch
  • Four netball courts
  • 11 tarmac tennis courts with floodlights
  • One table tennis table next to the tennis courts

Opening times

All parks with gates open by 8am daily. All of our parks are open 365 days a year (including Christmas and New Year's Day).

Water play features are turned on between 10am and 7pm during the months of April to September. They are turned off for the rest of the year.

Closing times 

Closing times vary throughout the year, but it's usually at sunset. You can find monthly closing times below:

Improvements to Highbury Fields

The council is planning to make significant improvements to Highbury Fields, including upgrading the sports facilities, and creating a new café building and wildlife garden with shelter to enable nature-based learning for children.
