Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential.

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Recycling on estates and blocks of flats

What you can recycle and how to put it out for collection.

Your collection day

We collect rubbish and recycling at least weekly from communal bins.

Find your collection day.

Mixed dry recycling

Check what items you can recycle. Remember to rinse and empty containers.

When collecting items for recycling:

Do not put black rubbish bags in the communal recycling bin. Black bags and their contents will be treated as rubbish.

Food waste recycling

Check what food waste you can recycle.

To help with recycling food waste, you can:

Recycling in small spaces

We asked people living on estates how they make it work. Here are their top tips.

You don’t need a second bin

Collect your recycling in a strong bag or box instead.

Use the space you have

Keep your recycling:

  • under the kitchen sink
  • in a cupboard or drawer
  • on a shelf, ledge or in a corner

Take it out often

If you don’t have much room, empty your recycling regularly. This keeps your space tidy.

Make it part of your day

Some people take recycling out every time they leave their home.

Ask your neighbours

Other people on your estate are recycling too. They might have good ideas you can try.

Chutes

If you have a chute, please place your refuse in bin liners before putting it in the correct chute. Only use the chute between 8am and 8pm so you don’t disturb your neighbours.
