Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.  

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Cool spaces

There are local cool spaces that are free and open to everyone. Visit them to rest, drink water and stay cool. Find a cool space near you

Access Islington hubs 

North and South Access Islington hubs are closed due to the hot weather. The Central Hub is open for urgent, in-person support, until 4pm today (Wednesday 24 June) but avoid travelling unless it is essential. 

You can still access our services online and you can call us on 020 7527 2000 if you need to speak to someone.

Measles in Islington

Measles cases have spread in parts of North London because some children are not vaccinated and are passing it to other unvaccinated children.

To protect your child from measles, make sure they have had their course of the vaccine.

How to get a measles vaccine

If your children have not had the MMR or MMRV vaccine, ask your GP if you can get one for them. The vaccine is for all children of any age and is free.

If you have school-aged children that need the vaccine, you can book one at an Islington catch-up clinic too.

The MMRV vaccine protects children from: 

It is part of the usual set of vaccines children get, with one course at 1 year and at 18 months old.

Childhood vaccines

Babies need to have vaccinations when they are 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks old. Older children need to have vaccinations at one year and at 3 years, 4 months.

Flu vaccines

Flu vaccines are safe and effective. They are offered every year on the NHS to help protect people at risk of flu.

The flu vaccine is available for the following eligible residents:

  • all children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2024
  • primary school aged children (from Reception to Year 6)
  • secondary school aged children (from Year 7 to Year 11)
  • all children in clinical risk groups aged from 6 months to less than 18 years
  • those aged 50 years and over
  • pregnant women
  • those in long-stay residential care homes
  • carers
  • close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
  • frontline health and social care staff
  • those aged 6 months to 65 years in clinical at-risk groups
    • Respiratory (lung) diseases, including asthma
    • Heart disease, kidney disease or liver disease
    • Diabetes
    • Neurological (brain or nerve) conditions including learning and disability
    • Being seriously overweight (BMI of 40 and above)

Community child flu vaccination clinics

We are running community flu vaccination clinics for school-age children (Reception to Year 11) in several locations throughout September to December.
