Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Child performance licence

A child up to the age of 16 may need a licence if they take part in certain events, such as films, plays, or sporting events, where people pay to watch. Find out more and apply.

Overview

Children under 16 need a licence if they take part in:

  • films, plays, concerts, sporting events, or other public performances where people pay to watch
  • events held in licensed venues
  • modelling work.

The licence helps make sure children are safe and supported while rehearsing or performing.

A licence is required for any performance involving children under 16, no matter how long it lasts or when it happens—including during school hours, holidays, or weekends.

If the child is being home-schooled, a licence is needed for any paid performance, even if it's short.

When a licence might not be needed

A licence may not be needed if:

  • the child won’t miss school for the performance
  • no payment is made (except to cover expenses)
  • the child has performed less than four days in the last six months.
