Stay safe in very hot weather

Very hot weather is expected for the next few days. A red heat-health alert (the highest level) is in place for London on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hot weather can be dangerous and can cause serious illness. Stay safe and look out for others who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat. Read advice on GOV.UK

Tenant Management Organisations (TMOs)

What Tenant Management Organisations (TMOs) in Islington are for, how we work with them, and how to set up your own.

How to set up a TMO

Steps you need to take when setting up a TMO.

Before setting up a TMO, you must take these steps:

  1. Form a resident group

You must bring together a group of tenants and leaseholders to talk about taking over some housing management. There must be at least 25 properties occupied by secure council tenants in the area the group want to manage.

  2. Get community support

The group must get the support of residents where they live.

  3. Conduct a ballot

The group must hold a secret ballot (like an election) of tenants and leaseholders in the area to make sure there is support for a TMO. The majority must vote ‘agree’ to start running a TMO.

  4. Participate in a ‘competency assessment’

The group must participate in a ‘competency assessment’. This is to demonstrate the TMO can manage the services. Members must show they have the skills and knowledge needed to be successful. An approved government assessor will do the assessment.
