This statement applies to content published on the Islington Safeguarding Children Partnership website (ISCP).

This website is run by Islington Council. It is designed to be used by as many people as possible. The text should be clear and simple to understand. You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • The carousel (picture slider on home page) is difficult to understand and operate for screen reader users who cannot see the screen.
  • At times chevron icons on buttons obscure parts of the button text.
  • The ‘Was this information helpful widget’ opens and closes unexpectedly, which can be confusing.
  • The question ‘Was this information helpful’ is not programmatically associated with the radio buttons used to answer the questions.  Screen reader users who cannot see the screen who navigate directly to the radio buttons may not know to what the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ radio buttons refer to.
  • JAWS screen reading software becomes silent when it encounters some of the chevron icons.
  • Navigation menus open on mouse hover.  The escape key does not close the navigation menus.
  • Navigation menus cannot be closed using the mouse.
  • There are some minor coding issues, which whilst not WCAG compliant, do not affect the Chrome browser or JAWS and NVDA screen reading software.
  • Link text is not always consistent. The same link text does not always go to the same page and in other places the same page is described using different link text.
  • There is more than 80 characters per line on some parts of the site, which can be difficult for some users to read.
  • The ISCP email link is obscured on a 320 px width screen.
  • The keyboard focus indicator does not always have sufficient colour contrast.
  • There is no ‘Search’ label for the search text input field.
